Picnics, parties and charity events often feature Volleyball as the sport of choice. Volleyball is increasing in popularity around New York City, with many area high schools establishing strong, competitive programs. You can start your daugher on a track to future success right here at St. Nick's!
Our Volleyball Athletic Director has had experience in volleyball in NYC, serving as both a college head coach and a high school assistant coach. Many of her coaches are former players who have moved on with their playing careers on various levels.
The volleyball program is leveled to fit the experience of our players. They will learn basic skills of serving, passing and the rules of the game at the lower levels, moving up to setting and hitting at the middle levels before learning various defensive systems in the upper levels.
Each team will have a weekly practice and will play at least one game against another school/parish a week during the season. Some games will be in our gym at St. Nicholas of Tolentine, while others will be in schools around the Diocese. Practices begin in November with games starting in January.
We boast a tradition of excellence, with two CYO Championships and many players who have continued on to play volleyball in high school and college. Come join our winning tradition!
The volleyball clinic is designed for beginner players to master the basics of volleyball. Student-athletes in grades 1-3 are instructed using a softer volleyball appropriate for their age level and to better help them master the basic skiils. Those in grades 4-8 are taught the skills they will need to catch up with those players who have played the game before and ease their transition onto the travelling CYO team.
Volleyball clinic begins at the conclusion of the CYO volleyball season and lasts for eight weeks.
